About the Conference
This conference is organized by the Kuwait Accountants and Auditors Association (KAAA) and the college of Business Studies in the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) and. It aims to bring accounting researchers, accounting professionals, and international bodies together in one place, including the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the World Bank. The goal of this conference is to enhance collaboration between accounting academic researchers and practitioners. It covers several topics, including—but not limited to :

We are pleased to announce that the Conference will cover participation costs for researchers whose papers are accepted for presentation. This includes registration, accommodation, meals, and transportation (airport-hotel and hotel-conference) for three nights.
To recognize outstanding research, the conference will also present awards for the top two papers:

The Conference Chair
Dr. Souod Alazemi is an academic and researcher specializing in corporate governance, auditing, and financial reporting. He is a faculty member at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) in Kuwait and has been a lecturer in the College of Business Studies since December 2012. He also served as the Acting Head of the Accounting Department at the College of Business Studies, where he played a key role in academic leadership and curriculum development.
Dr. Alazemi holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Essex, UK, where his research focused on the introduction of audit committees and the implementation of corporate governance in Kuwait. He also earned a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Essex with distinction. His master’s dissertation examined the audit expectation gap in Kuwait, reflecting his broader research interest in the relationship between regulatory frameworks, auditing practices, and corporate transparency.
Dr. Alazemi has significant experience in governance and regulatory frameworks. He previously chaired the Corporate Governance Team at the Insurance Regulatory Unit (IRU) in Kuwait, where he led the drafting and issuance of governance codes for the insurance sector.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Alazemi gained practical experience in the financial sector through the Kuwait Investment Authority’s Fresh Graduate Training Program. He also completed an internship at UBS Global Asset Management in London.
Beyond academia, he has been a guest speaker at various institutions, including Kuwait University, the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), and the UAE Ministry of Economy, where he has delivered talks on corporate governance and governance in family businesses.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Jean Bouquot became IFAC President in November 2024. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Bouquot joined the IFAC Board in November 2020, nominated by Compagnie Nationale des Commissaires aux Comptes (CNCC) and Conseil Supérieur de l'Ordre des Experts-Comptables (now Conseil National de l'Ordre des Experts-Comptables). He also served as IFAC Deputy President from November 2022 to November 2024.
Mr. Bouquot was the president of CNCC from February 2017 to October 2020. From December 2012 to December 2014, he was vice-chairman of the Compagnie Régionale des Commissaires aux Comptes de Versailles (regional statutory auditors professional body) and member of the CNCC. From 2014 until 2016, he was chairman of the Compagnie Régionale des Commissaires aux Comptes de Versailles and in February 2015, he was appointed Board Member of the CNCC.
Partner at EY until October 2020, Mr. Bouquot was an audit partner since 1992 and has 40 years of experience, at Arthur Andersen from 1980 to 2002 and then EY. He was also in charge of assurance service line for France/Luxembourg/Maghreb from 2008 to 2015.
Mr. Bouquot attended HEC business school and Institut d'Etudes Politiques of Paris. He is an expert-comptable and commissaire aux comptes. He also served as a reserve colonel in the French Air Force from 2008 to 2020, including attending the Auditor 59 session at the Institut des Hautes Etudes de la Défense Nationale.

He was conferred as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, acknowledging his impactful contributions to the field in 2024.
His scholarly contributions have been recognised by the British Sociological Association and the Labor and Employment Relations Association in the United States. Professor Uddin has authored numerous academic and non-academic articles on a wide range of topics, including accounting and development, sociology of work, and corporate governance and sustainability. His research has been published in prestigious journals, such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, Public Administration, Development and Change, Social Science and Medicine, Work, Employment and Society, and the Journal of Critical Realism.
Shahzad’s research spans a broad geographic scope, focusing on the majority world (non-Western countries) across multiple continents, including Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. He has published extensively on countries such as Palestine, Bangladesh, Japan, the Czech Republic, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Ghana, and Uganda, along with other majority world countries.


Musa Mangena joined the Nottingham University Business School as Professor of Accounting in January 2020. He is a qualified Chartered Governance Professional with associate membership of ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Musa joined the Business School from the University of Essex, where he was Professor of Accounting and Head of Accounting Group. He previously was Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Nottingham Trent University and Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Bradford.
Prior to becoming an academic, Musa spent many years in the banking sector where he held senior positions in different functions such as banking operations, international financial markets operations, and finance and administration. In his last role, he managed a US$75 million World Bank funded project on enterprise development in Zimbabwe, supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
Musa is currently the Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Accounting Research and the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies and Senior Editor of the African Accounting and Finance Journal. He is also the current Treasurer and Chair of the International Scientific Committee of the African Accounting and Finance Association.

Mona El-Chami is a Senior Governance Specialist at the World Bank Governance Global Practice. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration and is a US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). She is a recognized trainer and assessor of International Organization for Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) Supreme Audit Institution Performance Measurement Framework (SAI PMF). She has over 20 years of experience in the areas of governance and financial management, including accounting, internal and external and auditing. She is a core member of the World Bank Accountability and Oversight Institutions Community of Practice contributing to many studies aiming at assessing and supporting Supreme Audit Institutions. She has been leading a number of accountability and oversight engagements in the MENA region providing support to Supreme Audit Institutions, parliaments, ministries of finance, and other. Prior to joining the Bank, she worked with KPMG, managing consulting engagements in both the private and public sectors, including corporate governance, risk assessments and business process improvement. She had been, as well, a developer and lecturer and of professional training courses in internal audit in cooperation with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

Sabri Boubaker is a Professor of Finance at EM Normandie Business School (Paris, France). He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Financial Management & Accounting, the recipient of "The Economic Research Foundation's Research Award 2022" from the "Centrum för Forskning om Ekonomiska Relationer, Sweden," the best corporate finance paper award at the 2023 Asian Finance Conference, and has been featured in the list of "World Ranking of Top 2% Researchers" database (Stanford University). His scholarly work has been widely recognized, with over 11,000 Google citations, reflecting his significant impact in the field. Pr. Boubaker serves on editorial boards of many accounting and finance academic journals, such as British Journal of Management, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money (Subject Editor), International Review of Financial Analysis (Associate editor), International Review of Economics and Finance (Associate editor), and International Journal of Finance & Economics (Associate editor).
